Currently, more than 50 million Americans are prescription pill abusers, and every year 24,000 die of a drug overdose. In Palm Beach County this issue has reached epidemic proportions. And, despite these staggering statistics, public knowledge of this growing crisis, or “Pharmageddon” as some call it, remains surprisingly limited. Dr. Barbara Krantz, CEO and Medical Director of Research at Hanley Center, is a noted expert on the disease of addiction and, can discuss the lack of “addiction” education among medical professionals plus the general dysfunction of America’s “quick fix” medical culture.
