The Importance of Breakfast

We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Our nurses and chefs stress the importance of eating breakfast by pointing out the benefits and concerns if you skip out.

A hearty breakfast provides the energy boost to start the day with increased creativity, concentration and alertness.  It gives you the strength and endurance for physical activity which contributes to a healthy mind and body.   Morning consumption will also deter you from overeating  later in the day thus being a source of weight control.

Skipping breakfast can be detrimental to any productivity during the day.  It can cause low blood sugar which can result in a number of symptoms including: fatigue, confusion and disorientation, loss of concentration and memory, trembling or dizziness, teariness or depression.  When taking medications, it is often important to have food in your system as well.  WestBridge’s nutritional staff highlights the importance of breakfast and healthy nutrition as part of our Wellness Program.  Participants are taught about the benefits of watching what they eat and exercising and its relevance to their overall health.
