Happy New Year

Today is the 2nd day of 2014 and for many it marks our first day back to work. There is so much that we can do to achieve a healthy balance between our work and personal life. Here are a few tips to help promote that balance throughout 2014:

  • Take proper breaks at work, for example take at least half an hour for lunch, or get out of your work environment by getting some fresh air.
  • Try to ‘work smarter, not longer’. This involves prioritizing – allowing yourself a certain amount of time per item on your to do list – for example, not getting caught up in less productive activities so as to better stay on task.
  • Recognize the importance of wellness activities, including exercise, leisure activities and relationships. Make the effort this year not to sacrifice healthy choices in order to work longer hours, and try to ensure that you spend some spare time on wellness activities.

Nearly two thirds of employees have had to deal with a negative effect on their personal life. By using the tips outlined above and by visiting The Mental Health Foundation to learn more tips to live a healthy and happy new year!
