Addiction and Trauma in the Transgender Community with Guest Beck Gee-Cohen, MA, LADC, Owner/Consultant BGC Consulting

Beck will be addressing education, understanding, and empathy as it relates to the transgender community. The trans community has higher rates of addiction, suicidality, and mental health issues than the general population.  With use of experience and personal narrative, Beck’s hope is to diffuse any myths or falsehoods that society has created for this population. If we truly embrace, humanize, and create compassion, we will be better able to serve our clients and give hope in recovery.

Beck is originally from the Los Angeles Area and now resides in Boston, Massachusetts. Beck has a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community and has years of experience doing so. He has written articles and papers directly addressing the need for training staff on LGBTQ+ communities. Beck has spoken nationally at various conferences regarding LGBTQ+ communities. Beck has created programming for LGBTQ+ specific treatment programs, is on the Board of Directors for NALGAP (National Association of LGBTQ Addiction Professionals), and works closely with LGBTQ+ sober communities around the country. Beck has over 11 years of personal recovery and continues to address concerns of equality and acceptance of LGBTQ+ in sober communities. Beck is the owner/consultant of BGC Consulting, helping facilities become more affirming and knowledgeable about LGBTQ+ populations.
