10 Mindfulness Practices You Should Start Your Day With

_WB_BLOG7.Mindfulness10Mindfulness is the practice of living in the moment, focusing one’s attention completely on feelings, thoughts and environment in which they exist. Mindfulness is a practice and study that began in early Buddhism.

Mindfulness can be a meaningful tool for engaging in your pursuit of recovery and improved mental health. Of course, a mindful state does not happen by accident. Rather, it is cultivated through the proper daily habits. Starting each morning with the right routine can promote a mindful attitude throughout the rest of your day.

Here are 10 ways to achieve that—some simple daily habits to help make you more mindful.

  1. Jot down some reflections in a dream journal. Harness the power of your unconscious mind!
  2. Practice some stretches; get a yoga mat and learn some basic poses.
  3. Surrender to your daily tasks—in a positive Accept the things that are yours to do.
  4. Practice gratitude! List three to five things you are thankful for. Say them aloud!
  5. Schedule a reward for yourself—a trip to the gym, a date with a friend, a moment to look around in your favorite bookstore on the way home from work.
  6. Go for a walk; use it as a season of reflection and gratitude.
  7. Meditate—either silently or with soothing music playing.
  8. Let go. Review any grudges you may be holding from yesterday, and consciously relinquish your grip on them.
  9. Slow down. Take 20 minutes out of your morning rush to read a book, say a prayer, or do something else you find to be soothing.
  10. Build your concentration; pick an object in the room and just focus on it for five minutes.

Build mindfulness over time—and do it by investing in some of these simple habits.
